Now the hostages have been freed and there's at least a temporary pause in the mass killings, it makes perfect sense that both sides have less to shout about.


However of the past 70 years have taught me anything, its that there will be much to discuss or shout about again soon enough.

I suspect that there is an underlying cynicism at work here. Yes, there is a ceasefire - which is amazing and should end the bloodshed. Yes, there has been a prisoner exchange ( don't forget the Palestinians held without trial) - but has anything changed fundamentally ? There is still mutual hate and there is no suggestion that the illegal settlers will leave the Palestinian land or will stop harassing Palestinians. The fundamentals that led to 7/10 have not changed.

The issue is that:
Firstly the actors remain the same, Hamas continue to exist,  and the right wing extremist continue to stay at power in Israel or they will have huge popularity in Israel, plus the colonization, and the OPL proves to be ineffective to the eyes of Palestinians that see settler to steal literally (backed by the IDF) their land in West Bank. Both sides aren't exactly happy for various reasons, and poses conditions that will sink the peace ahreemejng.
Secondly Gaza remained completely destroyed and I don't see that Israel will let pass resources for the rebuilding. A perfect social climate for an Hamas 2.0.

In a nutshell I'm skeptical about this "peace", I don't think that it will last, indipendenlty  on my wishes.

I hope this works. Ceasfires haven't lasted before. But it would be dumb to not see this as a sign of hope. I've a pile of negative points about Trumps government but strongman foreign policy does have upsides and one of them is Trump's ability to get other countries to do what he wants.

When a much more powerful nation attacks a much less powerful nation after said less powerful nation launches a foolish terrorist attack against them, this is the best the less powerful nation could hope for. Somehow people are doing mental gymnastics to think Hamas was not the instigators in this conflict and ignore the majority of human history when wiping out an enemy completely was commonplace. Sure, Israel met them with a disproportionate response and almost genocided all of gaza, but hopefully this event will prevent more terrorism across the globe due to fear of disproportionate response.
